Audivox is an art pop duo based on New York City’s Lower East Side, crafting synth-driven songs anchored by soaring soprano melodies. Vocal-forward and immersive, their sound builds modern electronic worlds around the voice, melding cinematic scope with dynamic propulsion. A portmanteau of the Latin audire (“to hear”) and vox (“voice”), the name Audivox reflects the project’s sonic identity.

Soprano LILY MCATEER is Audivox's vocalist and co-composer. She brings compelling clarity and emotional precision to her performances while crafting the duo's lyrics and vocal melodies. An ex-ballerina who turned to opera to develop her voice, she studies classical voice in the lineage of Denes Striny. Her work has been called “near genius in her capacity to inspire” (Hardwick Gazette) and “beautifully, hauntingly evocative” (Nancy Collins of Rolling Stone).

Ms. McAteer began her training in ballet, mentored by Patricia McBride and awarded the Jean-Pierre Bonnefoux Merit Scholarship. Graduating magna cum laude from The Ailey School/Fordham University BFA Program, she performed principal roles with XAOC Contemporary Ballet, Ballet Neo, and The Mirror Theater, including “Louise” in Carousel and “Ophelia” in Hamlet, the latter with Nicole Ansari-Cox (Succession, The Score) as “Gertrude.” Ms. McAteer has collaborated with Justin Jacobs, former Director of Music at Melbourne’s National Theatre and former répétiteur for Victoria State Opera and Opera Australia, and originated work by Emory LeCrone and Sidra Bell. Additional performance credits include Charlotte Ballet, Eglevsky Ballet, Buglisi Dance Theatre, and Opera Carolina.

JONES C. MCATEER is the Artistic Director of Audivox, where he is the project’s primary composer, arranger, instrumentalist, and producer. A classical musician whose work spans Broadway to Bvlgari, his practice is guided by an interest in Gesamtkunstwerk, integrating image and sound into a cohesive whole.

Mr. McAteer's training includes private study in violin with Midori and Yoko Takebe and voice with Denes Striny, a protégé of Birgit Nilsson. He holds a BFA from New York University.

An avid collaborator, Mr. McAteer works closely with multidisciplinary artist Fabrizio Ferri as a leading member of his creative team. His work has contributed to projects for Maserati,  Dolce & Gabbana and American Ballet Theatre as well as publications including Vogue, Elle, and GQ. Within this practice is BREATHTAKING, featuring Isabella Rossellini, Willem Dafoe, Naomi Watts, and Sting, presented at Palazzo Reale in Milan and Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Rome.

Mr. McAteer previously served as Co-Artistic Director of The Mirror Theater alongside Emmy and Olivier Award winner Brian Cox. He has produced and performed principal roles in Tony Award–winning Broadway productions, working with Brian d’Arcy James, Maury Yeston, Tracy Letts, and Jeffrey Richards. His portraiture has been featured in HTSI and The Guardian.

On New Year’s Eve 2025, the duo wrote and recorded their self titled debut single, “Audivox.” Hypnotic vocal motifs drive a steady, relentless escalation, framed by dense, detailed synth design and a dark, physical low end. The result is a high-drama atmosphere with sharp detail and sleek bite.

“Audivox” is now streaming on all platforms.
